Bringing Their Voices to Light: Women in Yiddish Literature
Where are all the women in Yiddish literature? Anita Norich, well-known scholar and translator of Yiddish literature will discuss the role of women writers in Yiddish: what and how they wrote, why we know more about their poetry than their novels, and why there has been a renewal of interest in them. She will also discuss the importance of translating these works, and how modern translation has led to a renaissance and rediscovery of some forgotten–or suppressed–treasures.
