Rock ‘N Roll: Songs of the 60s
Hosted By: Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan
The tumultuous political and social changes of the ‘60s were reflected in its music— more expressive, creative, and complex. The teen idols and mainstream singers of the late ‘50s gave way to the creative genius of The Beatles and British invasion, the exuberance of Motown and funk, and the folky protest songs and psychedelia. Youthful disillusionment brought more somber themes—but also hopeful songs about community and forbearance. Join Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan as they remember a decade that introduced some of rock and roll’s most memorable and bittersweet music.
